Adipurush review: The first look of the film ‘Adipurush’ faced a lot of criticism and was subsequently modified a lot. But the basics remained the same. There is no doubt that the film is visually good in terms of VFX, but CJI’s shortcomings remain. VFX and CGI work in 2D is not impressive. While in 3D it is strong. The biggest problem comes in the screenplay and dialogues.
To give the film a modern look, director Om Raut has given a different look to Ravana’s Lanka, which looks like a ‘Harry Potter’ or ‘Game of Thrones’ castle as opposed to Ravana’s glittering gold. The film’s three-hour run time begins to falter when the story in the second half is limited to the Rama-Ravana battle embellished with VFX. Although the story looks good with the visual effects before the interval. The director has left out many episodes of Ramayana like Ahilya, Meghnad Vaad. While Bali and Sugriva have been given the pure form of monkeys, Ravana’s appearance, attire and his weapons have been greatly modernized. Ravana is shown riding an elf-like creature, his weapons reminiscent of ‘Game of Thrones’. Sanchit-Ankit Balhara’s background score is strong, but Ajay-Atul’s music doesn’t make the songs that great. Yes, ‘Jai Siyaram Rajaram’ and ‘Tu Hai Sheetal Dhara’ are good to listen to.
In terms of acting, Prabhas plays Raghav as a restrained and dignified Purushottam. Saif Ali Khan as Ravana is very suited, but with the help of digital techniques, his size is shown to be slightly larger. Kriti Sanon is perfect as Janaki. Apart from looking good, she has given a strong performance, but she has not got much screen space. Sunny Singh as Laxman is okay. Devdutt has done justice to his character as Bajrang. Vatsal Sheth gets a lot of screen space in the role of Indrajeet, which he plays beautifully. Sonal Chauhan appears in the role of Mandodari in only two scenes.
