Seeing Sanjay Dutt working on the sets of the film even though he is fighting cancer has made director Karan Malhotra respect him even more. In an interview given recently, the director said that Sanjay Dutt was battling cancer while the shooting of the film was going on, but during the entire shoot, he never let it be known that he was going through trouble. Seeing his passion for work, Karan Malhotra called him ‘Superman’.

Sanjay Dutt was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in August, 2020. Karan said, ‘The news that Sanjay sir was diagnosed with cancer came as a shock to all of us. We had no idea about that. They were talking, behaving and working as if nothing had happened. I think that is why they are where they are today. Sanjay Sir doesn’t let anything get in his way. He is an inspiration to all on set’.

Karan added that ‘after giving so many years of his time to the craft, Sanjay Sir steps forward. His behavior shows us how to behave on the sets. During the shooting of ‘Shamshera’, he had the same attitude as if nothing had happened, as if he could not win. He never mentioned what was happening to him. His mood on set was always light’. Calling him ‘Superman’, Karan said that he has won the battle against cancer with a smile. ‘There is none like him. I will always be indebted to his support at Shamshera. He has always been a guide and mentor to me’.
