The film is a remake of the Tamil film Maanagaram, directed by Mumbaikar Tamil director Lokesh Kangaraj, who has produced superhit films like Kaithi and Vikram. The hit film has already been dubbed and released in Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. However, in the era of remake films in Bollywood, Mumbaikar will be called another remake film.

It was a challenge for Santosh Sivan to make a film with so many characters, but still it was a good effort. However, he could have made Vijay Sethupathi and Ranveer Shorey’s role a little more. Especially the backgrounds of Vijay and Ranveer’s characters would have strengthened their roles. A brilliant performance opposite Vijay Sethupathi in her Bollywood debut has raised expectations from her upcoming Hindi films. At the same time, Ranveer Shourie is also engrossed in the role of Don. Vikrant Massey is doing well on OTT. Sachin Khedekar is also perfect in his role. While competent actors like Sanjay Mishra and Brijendra Kala could have been used more. Hrudu Harun and Tanya Maniktala have also done a good job according to their roles.
